Burn With Confidence – Schedule An Annual Chimney Inspection!

Every year in the U.S., over 25,000 chimney fires occur. Perhaps surprisingly, many of these fires could have been prevented had the homeowners kept up with annual chimney inspections. The number of preventable fires isn’t surprising to those of us here at Copper Top or to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) or the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), both of whom urge homeowners to schedule a chimney inspection each and every year, regardless of use. Have you been working to keep your risk of house fire low with annual chimney inspections? Let Copper Top help.

Experience You Can Trust

Our team of certified chimney professionals has the experience, knowledge, and equipment to perform a thorough evaluation and inspection of your chimney system – from top to bottom. We use video scanning technology, and can even provide you with video documentation, if necessary. All of our technicians are well-versed in all 3 levels of chimney inspection, as determined by the NFPA, so whatever your chimney inspection needs may be, we can help.

  • Level 1 – Level 1 inspections are relatively simple, general inspections performed on chimney systems that have been well-maintained and have not undergone any changes. If, for example, you’ve kept up with annual inspections and cleanings and haven’t noticed any changes or made any changes (i.e. flue liner, appliance, or fuel type), a level 1 is likely all you’ll need to have performed. Level 1 inspections don’t require the use of any real tools or the removal of any chimney components.
  • Level 2 – Level 2 inspections are a bit more involved and may require some simple tools and the removal of some chimney components. If it’s been a while since you’ve had your chimney system inspected, you’ve noticed some changes or made some changes, you think your chimney may have undergone some damage, you’ve experienced a chimney fire, or you’re buying or selling the property, a level 2 is highly recommended.
  • Level 3 – Level 3 inspections can involve some demo work, which is why they are truly only reserved for serious problems that can’t seem to be resolved by a level 1 or level 2 inspection. But don’t worry – we would never perform a level 3 inspection without first discussing it with you!

Even if your chimney seems to be working flawlessly, annual inspections should be a priority. Not only can they help us to identify problems and issues early on, but they can also give you peace of mind that your chimney is in perfect working order. So before lighting up the first fire of the season, make sure your chimney is clean, free of blockages or obstructions, and ready to provide you with the warmth and comfort you’re after.
